My taste in music hasn't changed drastically. First off, I have always hated country music. Some people tell me I'm crazy or even my sisters say I have bad taste, but I just don't have the feel for it. Thats just me though!! I have always been very into salsa and cumbia music my whole entire life. That was the first type of music I would get up to and dance when I was younger. Of course I loved the whole Disney music and little sing-a-long songs but salsa was my thing. I remember when my family and I would go to a party or have people over, they would start playing music. Obviously my family is so loud and they love putting anyone they know on the spot. They would always scream out how I loved dancing and that I was good for a 8 year old. So ofcourse I would dance with one of my aunts or uncles and dance to the music that made me feel alive and kind of powerful.
Since now, I still love that type of moving music. Of course I have molded myself to different types of music like hip hop, pop, rock, techno, reggae, and romantic music. Being in a relationship doesn't make me listen to romantic music more than before. I have realized, before I was in a relationship, I listened to those mushy songs more because I always wanted to find that special someone like they explain in the songs. After being with my boyfriend for a while now, I still listen to romantic music just the same but not too much as before. There are just certain songs I really love because of the lyrics. I love the meaning of songs. Some songs don't sound like they'd be a love song, but if you actually pay some attention and listen to it, the words are so powerful. Also being in a relationship, my boyfriend has introduced me to music such as, techno. That is a type of music I never really looked into or bothered to listen because I categorized it as music that wasn't as good or just different.
My musical taste ranges but hasn't changed completely. It is still the same which is still quite a variety. Even when meeting new friends, we always seemed to have the same taste and we click. Throughout the years, music has always been a big part of me. I've been able to open my eyes and ears to different types that I would never in a million years, would of thought I'd really like. I have noticed a little musical pattern in me. I noticed when I was single, I would listen more to songs about love just because I would get so caught up in it that I woud wish I would find someone to make me feel like that. I know, you're probably thinking--your crazy! That is just how I am. Now I basically listen to a lot of music my boyfriend is into. A lot of it I already really like but others, I never did. Music has helped me in different situations in my life and has always made me feel alive and powerful. It makes you feel like that song was written for you.

The role of music
When thinking about music and how it has had a role in my life, I have never actually appreciated it as much as I probably should. Would I ever be able to make a song? I think that is the hardest thing to do. Music is art. When your picturing lyrics in your mind, you are painting a picture of what it means to you. You are imagining if that song was written about you and what you would be doing and thinking. It has influenced me to appreciate it more. Music is not only instruments playing but also about what the lyrics mean to you. The instruments put you in a specific mood, either happy, free, independent, strong, and etc. Music is every single mood you could ever think of.
Picturing how music has changed and viewed my life is actually quite easy. There was one time when I was upset about a certain problem and didn't know how I would feel better. Not even thinking if it would make me feel better, I turned on my radio. A song was on that was perfect for my mood and make me feel at ease, which it did. It made me feel strong and free, like nothing else mattered in the world. I was in my own little world, and my world was perfect. Music affects all of us, either if its our next door neighbor or someone across the world. In our community, people are obviously affected by music. Everywhere you go, people are listening to music in their car or having a party somewhere with music booming out of the speakers. Music is all around us even if you don't see it. Children are singing different tunes they like, playing musical chairs, or dancing to their ballet recitals.
Even if it is not instruments playing, people around the world make music on their own with their hands or mouth. It is extraordinary the things people come up with. It is obvious that music affects everyone. It's not just one specific genre but multiple genre's that people are into. Music speaks to everyone and takes people to a different places they've never been to every time. If music was not around, people would not be as creative and there wouldn't be the art we have today. When thinking about whether music has affected the world or not, I always think of Michael Jackson's song "We Are the World" and "Black or White". Those songs speak out to anyone and everyone. Music has been able to unite people and end racism because we all need each other no matter what. Music has different purposes for all of us. It speaks to us in many different ways that makes us really appreciate music and everything around us.
I expect the theme of music to alter my understanding and appreciation greatly. I feel like I understand why music is around by picturing myself what I would do without it. Music talks to me and makes me appreciate it more now. Creating music isn't easy, it is unique and an art. Without music, we all wouldn't be who we are today, it is something that not everyone realizes how great it is to each and every one of us.
